Thinadhoo has long been the commercial and administrative centre of the southern Maldives. Its people were famed traders who sailed to Ceylon and beyond, bringing home wealth, education and new ideas.
Today the city is a regional hub for healthcare, education and business in Huvadhu Atoll, served by nearby Kaadedhdhoo Airport and a busy harbour that connects the atoll's islands.
